There was an old military base. Data shows it was abandoned when something from the experimental chamber escaped and killed five people. In a world where we've face every conceivable danger and threat, this was just another example of running interference to try and save what was left of our world. We've known a life full of strife and loss. I was called on to investigate matters and eliminate the threat of this evil. Entering the experimental chamber, I suddenly felt a shift. I was immediately thrown off balance, and everything seemed backwards, or upside own. I couldn't tell. Suddenly I was tumbling through the air, colors flashing before my eyes, wind howling around me. Reaching out, I hoped to grip something, anything to slow down my decent. Just like that, a blinding white light enveloped me and I blacked out. When I awoke, I was nowhere near to home. All around me was sumptuous wealth, and I was in the center of it all, cradled by the soft comfort of a mattress and silk sheets. I'd heard about these places. Penthouses. Places that once existed for those with power and money. Throwing my feet off the bed, I caught a glance at myself in the mirror. I looked different-- clean, shaved-- but I was still me. It couldn't be-- surely-- but no, I'd heard rumors that the place I'd entered was a facility testing the possibility of traveling dimensions. The phone rang at my side. I glanced around, uncertain, then suddenly a screen I hadn't known was there before popped to life and a severe looking man appeared and looked straight at me. He certainly could see me as well as I could see him. I quickly had to wrap my mind around the fact that the other dimension me I'd traded places with was an elite agent fighting terrorist agents... and I was being called to duty.
