Ekapeli Alku teaches the basics of reading in Finnish.
Ekapeli Alku is primarily designed for preschoolers or older students who need practice in recognizing letter-sound connections. Ekapel is based on the findings and research results of the Longitudinal Study on Child Language Development at the University of Jyväskylä.
Ekapeli was developed to help especially those children who find learning to read challenging and who need additional practice. However, the first games are also suitable for older players who have problems with reading skills. Ekapeli can be used, for example, at home, school, preschool or with a speech therapist.
Practicing with a game can be especially helpful if the child's family has had reading difficulties or there have been noticeable difficulties in the child's language development. By playing the game, the child gets effective additional practice, which makes it easier to develop reading skills at the pace of other students.
